Dhaka is famous for its maritime industry, not for building ships, but breaking them down. Labor is so cheap that it is more beneficial to send these sea mammoths off to Bangladesh for their last journey.

Working conditions are poor and health and safety regulations practically don't exist. The flipside is that even with wages as low as $2-$3 per day this massive industry offers many workers a stable source of income.
