Foldable Chinese fans go back about 900 years. Besides the functional aspect, Chinese fans also became an art form as the xuan paper or silk material provides a great canvas for a beautiful drawing. Depending on the artist these items can become very valuable. But not these fans here; they were just cheap mass production items put on display for tourists. Anyway, a nice subject for a photograph though....
